Modern baths are more than just somewhere to soak...

So, what makes a bath modern? Thin rims, squared or gently curved profiles, and a flat wide base that's comfortable to stand in. Older baths tended towards deep rolled edges and a narrow tapered bottom. A modern bath gives you more usable space inside the same footprint, which is the practical version of what "clean lines" actually means when you're standing in one at seven in the morning.

What types of modern baths are available?

Six, and it's worth knowing which you're after before you scroll. Straight baths for a three walled alcove. Corner baths like the Laguna and Cleo for awkward layouts. Shower baths with a widened end, including L-shaped and the J-shaped Tee. Back to wall designs like the Granada and Grove. Freestanding baths including the Alani, Verone and fluted Linnea. And whirlpool baths across several of those shapes.

What sizes do they come in?

Lengths from 1200mm up to 1900mm, and widths from 700mm to 1200mm once you include the corner baths. 1700 x 700mm remains the size most UK alcoves were built to, so start there unless you know your room is unusual. The odd numbers in the range, 1630mm on the Granada and 1655mm on the Alani, belong to the freestanding and back to wall designs, which aren't tied to alcove dimensions. Freestanding, back to wall or built in?

Built in is the efficient choice, using three walls you already have and taking a screen for showering. Freestanding gives you the sculptural piece, though it needs clear space on every side to earn it. Back to wall sits between the two: the Granada and Grove have a flat rear edge so the plumbing hides behind while the front and sides stay on show. For most normal sized rooms, back to wall is the compromise that actually works.

Which modern bath suits a small bathroom?

The Petite at 1200mm and 1300mm is built for cloakrooms and tight ensuites. The Laguna corner bath at 1200 x 1200mm is the other route, turning a corner into the bath rather than losing a full wall to it. An L-shaped shower bath is worth considering too, since it does two jobs in the footprint of one. Our small baths collection gathers the compact options together.

What are your modern baths made from?

Acrylic, across the range, with reinforced acrylic on the Vernwy models for extra rigidity underfoot. It's warm against the skin from the moment you get in, holds heat well through a long soak, and is light enough that two people can carry it upstairs.
