What is a bifold shower door?

A bifold shower door is made of two glass panels joined by a hinge, which fold together as the door opens. Instead of swinging out into your bathroom, the panels fold neatly inwards, leaving you with a comfortable entrance and plenty of floor space outside the shower. It's one of the most popular choices for smaller bathrooms and ensuites for exactly that reason.

Why choose a bifold shower door?

A bifold door gives you the easy access of an opening door without the swing space. That makes it a brilliant fit for compact rooms, where a hinged shower door might clip the toilet or basin as it opens. Compared with a sliding shower door, a bifold also gives you a wider opening in smaller widths, as the whole door folds out of the way rather than sliding behind a fixed panel.

What size bifold shower door do I need?

Measure the space where your shower will go, both across and from front to back, and check it against the sizes below.

  • Square enclosures in 700 x 700mm, 760 x 760mm, and 800 x 800mm, ideal for compact ensuites and cloakroom showers.
  • Rectangle enclosures in 900 x 700mm, 900 x 760mm, and 900 x 800mm, which give you a little more elbow room in the same corner.

Pair your enclosure with one of our square shower trays or rectangle shower trays in the matching size, so the glass sits neatly around the edge.

Where can I fit a bifold shower enclosure?

Each of our bifold enclosures comes with a fixed side panel alongside the door, which makes them perfect for tucking into the corner of your bathroom. If you'd rather place your shower against a single wall, our 3 sided shower enclosures include bifold designs with a glass panel on either side, so you don't need a corner at all. And if your bathroom has a low or sloping ceiling, you'll find bifold doors from 700mm to 900mm in our reduced height shower doors range, giving you the same space-saving design at a height that fits.

How do I install a bifold shower door?

If you're comfortable with a drill and spirit level, fitting a bifold enclosure is a manageable job for two people. Start with a level, fully sealed tray, then fix the wall profiles upright using a spirit level. Slot in the side panel and door, adjust until the door folds smoothly and closes evenly, then seal around the outside edges. Our guide on how to fit a shower tray covers the groundwork, and our ultimate guide to shower enclosures explains the options in more detail.

How do I keep a bifold shower door working smoothly?

A little care goes a long way. Wipe the glass and seals after each shower to stop limescale building up in the folding joint, and check the seals now and then for signs of splitting or hardening. If the door starts to stick, a gentle clean around the hinge usually does the trick.
