Mixer Showers and Complete Shower Sets

A mixer shower blends hot water from your boiler or cylinder with cold water from the mains, giving you one steady flow at the temperature you choose. Our range of mixer showers and complete shower sets runs from simple handset and slide rail kits to a full bathroom shower set with an exposed valve, riser rail, overhead head, and handset in one matching package. No hunting for parts that fit. Choose round, square, or traditional designs in chrome, black, or brushed brass. Most come with a five-year guarantee, and delivery is free on orders over £50.

What is a mixer shower?

A mixer shower takes hot water from your boiler or hot water cylinder and cold water from the mains, then mixes them at the valve. It doesn't heat the water itself. That means the flow depends on your water system, and on a combi boiler or unvented cylinder it's usually stronger than an electric shower can manage. Many mixer showers use a thermostatic valve (a valve that holds your set temperature steady), so the water won't turn hot or cold when someone flushes the toilet.

What is included in a complete shower set?

A full shower set provides every part you need in one package. A typical mixer shower set includes the valve, a riser rail, a fixed overhead shower head, and a handset on a flexible hose. Every part shares the same design and finish, so nothing clashes. This removes the trouble of checking that the valve outlet, rail, head, and hose all connect and match.

Types of bathroom shower kits

Which kit suits you depends on what's already on your wall. Here are the main options in our range.

  • Complete shower kits with an exposed valve include the valve, rigid riser rail, overhead head, and handset. Choose square kits for a crisp modern look, a round shower column, or a traditional kit with period detailing.
  • Thermostatic bar valve kits pair a slim exposed valve with a handset on a slide rail. They suit smaller showers where you don't need an overhead head.
  • Rigid riser and handset sets connect to an exposed valve you already have. They're a quick way to upgrade the rail and handset without changing the valve.
  • Handset kits with slide rail and hose are the simplest upgrade. They connect to a single outlet, such as a bath shower mixer tap, and let everyone set the handset at their own height.
  • Handset and concealed inlet sets connect the hose to a neat wall outlet, with the pipework hidden behind the wall. Pair one with a concealed valve for a clean, uncluttered shower wall.

Will a mixer shower work with my water system?

A mixer shower needs both a hot and a cold supply, so check your system before you buy. Combi boilers and unvented cylinders deliver hot water at mains pressure, which suits most mixer showers well. Gravity-fed systems are different. The hot water comes from a tank in the loft, so pressure is lower and the spray can feel weak without a shower pump. Some valves also need the hot and cold supplies at similar pressures. Check the minimum operating pressure on each product page.

If you don’t have stored hot water, an electric shower heats cold water from the mains instead. Not sure which system you have? Call our team on 0121 753 0700.

What finishes do mixer shower sets come in?

Our mixer shower sets come in three options. Chrome is the most popular choice. It suits almost any style and is the simplest finish to keep clean, especially next to existing chrome bathroom taps. Black turns the shower into a statement, standing out against light tiles and fitting neatly into black bathrooms. Brushed brass gives a softer, warmer tone that works with gold bathrooms, deep greens, and natural stone. Start with what's already in the room. When your taps, towel rail, and shower set share a finish, the whole bathroom looks planned.

How to fit a complete shower kit

Fitting an exposed shower kit is a manageable job if you're confident with basic plumbing. Here's the general order.

  1. Turn off the water at the isolation valves or main stopcock, then open a tap to drain the pipes.
  2. Check the pipe centres (the distance between the hot and cold pipes). Exposed valves fit set centres, so confirm the measurement on the product page and adjust your pipework to match.
  3. Fit the wall unions that connect the pipes to the valve. Check the hot and cold markings on the valve, then fix it in place.
  4. Hold the riser rail against the wall and mark the bracket positions with a spirit level. Use a detector to check for hidden pipes and cables before you drill.
  5. Connect the rigid riser to the top outlet of the valve and fix the wall bracket. Then fit the overhead head, hose, and handset.
  6. Turn the water back on. Run the shower at different temperatures and check every joint for drips.

If you're moving pipework or fitting a concealed valve, we recommend using a qualified plumber. Some guarantees also need professional fitting, so check the terms first.
