What is a hinged shower screen?

A hinged shower screen is a glass panel that attaches to your bath with hinges, allowing it to swing open and closed. Unlike fixed screens, the hinged shower screen door pivots outward for easy entry and exit. They're ideal for baths where you need flexibility between bathing and showering.

Types of hinged shower screens

We stock several hinged bath screen configurations to suit different bath shapes and bathroom layouts. Choose from:

Square hinged bath and shower screens: Feature straight panels with clean lines. They work brilliantly with standard rectangular baths, creating a modern, minimalist look.

Curved hinged bath and shower screens: Suit curved baths. They have gently radiating panels that add visual softness and maximise elbow room when you're showering.

Single-panel hinged screens: Provide one glass panel with a hinged section. Perfect for compact spaces or where you only need partial coverage.

Double-panel hinged screens: Provide two glass panels where one or both sections hinge open. This gives you maximum splash protection and versatility.

Frameless hinged bath and shower screens: Use glass panels with minimal metalwork for a premium, contemporary aesthetic.

Hinged bath shower screen sizes

Hinged shower screens for baths typically range from 800mm to 1500mm in width, with heights between 1400mm and 1500mm. That's tall enough to contain spray effectively in most bathrooms. Compact options like a 300mm hinged shower screen work brilliantly for small baths or as an additional pivoting section on larger screens.

Glass thickness is typically 6mm or 8mm toughened safety glass, balancing durability with weight. Before purchasing, measure your bath's width and check how far the hinged panel will swing open in your bathroom. You'll need clearance space for the door to operate properly.

How to install a hinged shower screen over a bath

Installing a hinged shower screen over a bath requires careful measuring and secure fixing to your bath edge and wall. First, check that your bath rim is level and free from damage. Position the wall channel against the tiles, mark your drill holes, then drill and plug the wall. Attach the channel with the supplied screws, ensuring it's perfectly vertical using a spirit level. Fix the hinges to the glass panel, then mount the panel to the wall channel. Finally, adjust the hinges so the door opens and closes smoothly, sealing properly against the bath edge.

If you're not confident with DIY, we'd recommend hiring a professional fitter. Proper installation prevents leaks and ensures your screen lasts for years. Or read our guide on how to install a shower screen for step-by-step instructions.

Hinged shower screen styles and colours

Our hinged bath shower screens come in chrome, brushed nickel and glass finishes to match your bathroom's taps and fittings. Choose from clear glass for a spacious feel, frosted for privacy, or easy-clean coated glass that repels water and soap scum. Frame styles range from chunky traditional profiles to barely-there frameless designs. Find colour options including clear, white and black hinged bath screens.
