What is a straight bath?

Rectangular, flat edged, and the same width from one end to the other. It sits neatly against any wall, panels easily, and doesn't demand a particular layout to look right. There's a reason it's the most common bath on the market: it just works, in almost any bathroom, without asking you to compromise on anything else in the room.

What sizes do your straight baths come in?

Lengths run 1200mm, 1300mm, 1400mm, 1500mm, 1600mm, 1700mm, 1800mm and 1900mm. Widths go from 700mm up to 1100mm, and heights vary between 385mm and 570mm depending on the model, which matters more than people expect if you're matching an existing panel. 1700 x 700mm is the size most UK alcoves were built to, so start there unless you already know your space is unusual. Should I choose a single ended or double ended straight bath?

Both shapes are here, and the difference is where the taps sit. A single ended bath puts the taps and waste at one end with a sloped back at the other, which gives one person the most comfortable soak for the floor space used. A double ended bath centres them so both ends match, which suits sharing and lets you fit the bath either way round. Alcove layouts usually point towards single ended.

What's the difference between a straight bath and a shower bath?

A shower bath has a wider end that gives you room to stand properly when you shower. A straight bath keeps the same width throughout, so an 800mm model gives you noticeably more standing room than a 700mm one, though neither matches a purpose built showering end. If the bath doubles as the daily shower rather than an occasional one, our shower baths are the better starting point.

Can you shower over a straight bath?

Yes, and most people do. You'll want a bath screen to keep water off the floor, plus a bath shower mixer or a separate valve for temperature control. Fit the screen at the tap end where you stand. Go for the widest bath your room allows, because the extra 100mm of width is what you actually feel standing up.

What are your straight baths made from?

Acrylic, across the collection. It's warm against the skin, holds heat well through a long soak, and is light enough for two people to carry upstairs. The Vernwy models use a reinforced acrylic for extra rigidity underfoot. Scratches come out with an acrylic repair kit, which is a genuine advantage over enamelled steel. Are straight baths easy to install?

Generally straightforward. The bath sits on adjustable feet, is levelled, and is sealed to the wall with silicone. The rectangular shape makes panelling simple and leaves no awkward curves to scribe around, which is part of why they're so widely fitted. A confident DIYer can manage the fit, though anything involving new plumbing connections is worth handing off to a professional.
