What types of bath panels are there?

Bath panels come in several configurations to suit different bath shapes. Front bath panels run along the length of your bath, while bath end panels cover the width at the tap or foot end.

For shaped baths, you'll need specialist panels. Shower bath panels, like p-shaped bath panels and l-shaped bath panels, are designed for p-shaped baths and l-shaped baths, respectively. Curved bath panels suit curved designs, and corner bath panels are made specifically for corner baths. Some panels come as two-piece sets to fit the specific tub configurations, or you can buy single side panels for baths on their own.

What bath panel sizes are available?

Bath panels in the UK come in various heights and widths. A standard bath panel size is typically 1700mm long by 500mm high, as most baths are 1690mm wide. However, bath panels are available in 1500mm, 1600mm, 1700mm, 1800mm, 1900mm, and 2000mm widths.

Standard bath panel height is 500mm to 520mm, but other heights are available. Bath panel plinths are available in all sizes if you need a higher bath finished level.

How to measure a bath panel

For the front bath panel, measure the bath’s length at floor level; for the end bath panel, measure the width at the tap end. Always take measurements at floor level as baths taper, and note the bath panel height from floor to the underside of the bath lip. If you’re replacing an existing panel, use the old one as your guide. P-shaped bath tub panels and curved bath panels often need the bath’s exact model number, and flexible bath panels may require an extra 10mm for trimming. When buying panels, choose the nearest larger size and cut to fit, and always check the bath’s technical dimensions rather than the advertised size.

How to fit a bath panel

How to remove a bath panel

Removing an existing bath panel depends on the material. Acrylic bath panels typically clip onto the underside of the bath lip. Gently pull the bottom of the panel away from the bath whilst pushing upwards to release the clips. MDF bath panels and wooden panels are usually screwed into a batten frame. Locate and remove the fixing screws (often hidden by decorative caps). Once removed, you'll have all the information you need regarding the shape and finished size for your replacement bath panel.

How to use bath panel clips to install a panel

Bath panel clips attach to the underside of your bath lip. Position the clips evenly along the length of the bath, typically every 300mm to 400mm. The panel slots into the bottom clip groove, then pushes up and into the top clips with a gentle click. This method works well for acrylic bath panels and plastic bath panels. It's quick, tool-free and allows easy removal for accessing plumbing.

How to fit a bath panel without screws

Fitting a bath panel without screws is possible using an adjustable bath panel fixing kit. These kits come with upright supports and strong adhesive velcro pads. Position the uprights vertically from floor to bath lip, ensuring they're level. Attach the corresponding velcro to the back of your bath panel, then press firmly into place. This works well with MDF bath panels and composite bath panels. There's no drilling required, and the panel remains removable for maintenance access.

Do bath panels need a frame?

We always recommend building a 38mm to 50mm (1.5" to 2") batten frame under the lip of the bath to the floor. This gives added strength and support to the bath panel, particularly for MDF bath panels, tongue and groove bath panels, and slatted bath panels. The frame prevents flexing and creates a solid bath panel installation.

However, easy-fit bath panel fixing kits can be used without a frame. This works with all bath panel shapes and materials, from ribbed bath panels to fluted bath panels, offering a strong alternative.

What materials are bath panels made from?

Bath panels come in different materials, each offering unique features. All our waterproof and water-resistant bath panels protect your bathroom from splashes when properly installed.

Acrylic bath panels are lightweight, waterproof and easy to fit, often used for curved and corner installations. They’re moulded to exact bath shapes but can crack if bent.

MDF bath panels use a moisture-resistant core bonded with acrylic for a durable, waterproof finish. Their 16–18mm thickness makes them ideal for straight or L-shaped baths.

Composite bath panels combine a moisture-resistant core with a stylish surface, offering strength and versatility well-suited for busy family bathrooms.

What colours and finishes do bath panels come in?

Bath panels are available in an extensive range of colours and finishes to complement your bathroom design. White gloss bath panels remain the most popular choice, offering a clean, versatile finish. Black bath panels create a bold, contemporary statement, while grey bath panels offer a softer alternative. We also stock a range of colours, including navy, teal and blush, to add warmth and character to your bathroom. Finishes range from high gloss and matt to textured options like ribbed and fluted bath panels.
