What is a double ended bath?

Most baths have the taps at one end and the plug at the other, which means one person gets the comfortable end and one person doesn't. A double ended bath solves that. The taps and waste sit centrally, leaving both ends identical in depth, shape and room. It's a small shift in design with a noticeable effect on how the bath actually gets used.

What sizes do your double ended baths come in?

Lengths run 1600mm, 1700mm, 1800mm and 1900mm, in widths of 750mm, 800mm, 900mm and 1100mm. The 1600 x 800mm Vernwy is the compact option, and 1700mm is the size most UK alcoves were built to. Because a double ended bath splits its length between two people, the extra 100mm from 1700mm to 1800mm makes a bigger difference here than it would on a single ended bath. Measure your space wall to wall at floor level and again at rim height before you commit, and read our guide on how to choose a bath if you want to work through it properly.

Where do the taps go on a double ended bath?

In the middle. Central placement is what defines the shape and what makes it work differently from a standard bath. In practice that means choosing a tap designed for central mounting, either sitting on the rim or wall mounted above it. Our bath taps cover both. If the bath stands away from the wall, a freestanding tap rising from the floor is the other option, and it tends to look properly considered in the right room.

Can you shower over a double ended bath?

Yes, and the central tap position helps. A shower head above the middle of the bath isn't competing for space with taps at one end, so you get a cleaner arrangement than on a single ended bath. You'll want a bath shower mixer and a bath screen to keep water off the floor, and it's worth deciding where the screen sits early, since it affects which side you get in from. If showering is the main daily use, a purpose built shower bath with a widened end will suit you better.

What are your double ended baths made from?

Acrylic, across this collection. It's warm to the touch, holds heat well through a long soak, and is light enough that two people can carry it up a staircase without drama. Can I get a double ended bath with whirlpool jets?

Three models here. The Vernwy at 1700 x 800mm with 14 jets, the Stratos Duo at 1900 x 900mm with 16 jets, and the Vernwy at 1800 x 1100mm with 16 jets. Whirlpool baths need a power supply near the bath fitted by a qualified electrician, plus a little more upkeep than a standard tub, so raise it with your fitter before the room is stripped out.
