What is a shower bath?

A shower bath accommodates both showering and bathing in a single fixture. Unlike standard rectangular baths, shower baths feature asymmetric designs with a wider section at one end. This extended area provides standing space for comfortable showering, typically 700-900mm width compared to the narrower bathing section at 600-700mm.

The design makes efficient use of available space by combining two functions that would otherwise require separate installations. This suits single-bathroom homes, growing families who need flexibility, and en-suites where fitting both a separate bath and a shower cubicle isn't practical.

What sizes work for different bathroom spaces?

Shower baths typically measure 1500-1800mm in length:

1500mm shower bath: Suits compact bathrooms and en-suites, providing functional showering space without overwhelming the room.
1700mm shower baths: Offers comfortable dimensions for most users with generous shower areas whilst fitting standard bathroom layouts.
1800mm shower baths: Provides the most spacious experience for both bathing and showering, suited to larger bathrooms.

Which shower bath shapes are available?

Our collection includes three main shower bath configurations:

L-shaped shower baths: These feature a square-cornered wider section at one end, creating a defined shower zone. The angular design provides maximum standing space for the footprint.
P-shaped shower baths: These offer curved profiles where the shower area extends, creating a softer, more flowing appearance with additional elbow room. The curved design can feel more spacious than L-shapes of equivalent size.
Corner shower baths: These fit into room corners with J-shaped or curved profiles, maximising space in compact bathrooms.

How do I choose between left-hand and right-hand shower baths?

Shower baths are described as left-hand or right-hand based on which side features the wider shower section. If you stand at the bath facing it as if about to step in, a left-hand shower bath has the wider section extending to your left, whilst a right-hand bath extends to your right.

This matters because door position, toilet placement, and plumbing locations in your bathroom typically work better with one configuration than the other. Measure your bathroom carefully and note where the door opens, where the toilet sits, and which walls can accommodate plumbing connections.

Which materials are shower baths made from?

Our shower baths are made from high-quality acrylic. Standard 5mm acrylic provides strength whilst remaining lightweight, making installation easier than other shower baths. The acrylic surface feels warm to the touch, retains heat effectively, and has a smooth, non-porous finish that resists bacteria and cleans easily with standard bathroom cleaners.

Some models offer optional Beauforte-reinforced acrylic, adding an extra strengthening layer that provides 45% more durability than standard acrylic. Beauforte models typically include extended guarantees up to 30 years, reflecting the enhanced construction quality.

What bath screens work with shower baths?

Shower baths require screens to contain water spray when showering. Most models offer optional hinged screens that attach to the bath edge, with designs that follow the L- or P-shape profile. Screens typically measure 1400mm in height, providing adequate protection without visually dominating the bathroom.

Hinged screens swing open for bath access and close for showering. Some models include fixed panels combined with hinged sections for flexible access. The screens should seal properly against the bath edge and wall to prevent leaks. Check individual product listings for compatible screen options, as screen designs vary by bath shape and manufacturer.

What panels are needed for shower baths?

Shower baths require shaped panels that follow their L or P profile. Front panels cover the bathing section's length, whilst end panels enclose the wider shower area.

The bath panels must match your bath's specific shape. L-shape panels differ from P-shape panels due to the curved vs angular profiles. Some shower baths in our collection include panels as standard, whilst others offer them as optional extras. Check product descriptions to confirm panel availability. The panels clip or screw into position and can be removed for access to the plumbing underneath.

How to install a shower bath?

Shower bath installation follows similar requirements to standard baths with additional considerations. Ensure proper floor support handles the combined weight of water, bath and bather. Position the bath with the wider shower section where you want the showering area, taking door access and toilet placement into account. Plumbing connections must accommodate both bath filling and shower drainage. The waste should be positioned in the shower section for efficient drainage during showering. Bath screens attach to the bath edge and the adjacent wall, requiring solid-wall fixings.
