What is a walk-in shower?

A walk-in shower is an open shower with no door. A fixed glass screen holds back the water, and you simply step in at the open end. Most sit on a long, low shower tray, though the same screens can also be fitted straight onto a sealed wet room floor. With nothing to open or close, they feel wonderfully spacious, even in an average-sized bathroom.

What's the difference between a walk-in shower and a wet room?

The difference is all in the floor. A walk-in shower sits on a shower tray, which collects the water and carries it to the waste. A wet room has no tray at all. Instead, the whole floor is tanked (sealed with a waterproof membrane) and gently sloped towards a drain. Our wet room screens work beautifully in both. What size walk-in shower do I need?

Because there's no door, a little extra length goes a long way in keeping water where it belongs. Our walk-in enclosures with trays come in the following sizes.

1200 x 700mm and 1200 x 800mm, which suit most ensuites and smaller family bathrooms.
1400 x 800mm and 1400 x 900mm, which give you more room to move and a larger dry area.
1600 x 800mm and 1700mm, which work well in larger bathrooms or where you're replacing a bath.

Our wet room screens stand 2000mm tall, in widths from 700mm to 1000mm, so you can match the glass to the space you have.

Will water splash out of a walk-in shower?

Not if it's planned well. Position your shower head at the closed end of the enclosure, so the spray points away from the opening. A longer tray also gives the water more room to settle before it reaches the entrance. For extra protection, add a walk-in wet room side panel to create a return, which blocks spray at the open end, while still leaving you an easy way in.

Can I replace my bath with a walk-in shower?

Yes, and it's one of the most popular bathroom upgrades there is. A standard bath takes up a footprint of around 1700 x 700mm, which means our 1700mm walk-in enclosure can often sit in the same space, using the existing waste position.
