Black Freestanding Baths

A black freestanding bath is about the boldest thing you can put in a bathroom, and the room tends to rearrange itself around it. Ours come at 1685mm and 1700mm long in a deep matt finish, one smooth sided and one with fluted texturing, both in acrylic with a 10 year guarantee.

What sizes do your black freestanding baths come in?

The Linnea is 1700 x 750mm and the Verone is 1685 x 800mm, both around 570mm to 585mm tall. Neither lands on a round number, which is worth knowing before you plan the room, since a freestanding bath doesn't have to fit an alcove and manufacturers aren't tied to standard sizes. Take the exact figure from the product page. Our guide on how to choose a bath covers what else to measure.

What's the difference between the Linnea and the Verone?

Texture and width. The Linnea has fluted detailing running around the outside, which catches the light and gives the matt black real depth. It's the one to pick if you want the bath to be an object in the room. The Verone is 50mm wider at 800mm and starts lower on price, so it's the easier route into a black bath if the finish matters more to you than the detailing.

What tap and waste suit a black freestanding bath?

A floor mounted freestanding tap is the usual choice, standing beside the bath where you can see the whole thing. Matt black brassware keeps it tonal, chrome gives you brightness against the dark shell, and brushed gold picks up the warmth in the Linnea's fluting particularly well. Whichever you choose, match the waste to the tap, because a chrome waste in a black bath with black taps is the detail people notice.

How much space does a freestanding bath need?

The footprint plus at least 100mm on every open side, and more if you can spare it. A dark bath reads visually heavier than a white one, so a black bath crowded into a corner looks bigger and more awkward than the same bath in white. Allow another 200mm square beside it for a floor mounted tap. Worth saying plainly: freestanding baths are harder for small children to climb into and the open sides send more water onto the floor, so if you're bathing toddlers daily a panelled bath is the more sensible choice for now.

Both baths are acrylic with a 10 year guarantee, and the Linnea is supplied with a full installation kit and leg frame system. Every order comes with 365-day returns and free delivery over £50 on a date you pick, with details on our delivery information page. Black is a hard finish to judge from a photograph, so if you're at all unsure, come and see it at our Birmingham showroom or call the team on 0121 753 0700. How can I style a bathroom around a black bath?

Start with the floor. A matt black bath absorbs light and will close a dark room in, so pale large format tiles or a light microcement gives it something to sit against, and that contrast is what makes the shape read from across the room. Lighting matters more than usual for the same reason, since a matt surface gives nothing back. Then repeat the black two or three times elsewhere, so it looks like a decision: a black tap, a dark-framed mirror, a towel rail in the same finish. Warm metals are the other route worth a look, and brushed gold against matt black gives you a softer room than going black throughout, which is where the Linnea's fluting earns its keep. Our customer bathrooms show black baths in finished rooms, which tells you more than a product shot on a white background ever will.
