What is a hinged shower door?

A hinged shower door opens outwards on hinges, just like a door in your home. On our Havana range, the door is paired with a fixed glass inline panel, which sits in line with the door to fill the rest of the space. It's a lovely choice if you'd like a generous entrance and a solid feel every time you step in.

Where can I fit a hinged shower door?

There are two simple ways to fit one, depending on your layout.

  • Between two walls in a recess, where the door and inline panel span the full width of the opening.
  • In a corner, by adding a 700mm or 900mm hinge door side panel to create a rectangular enclosure, such as 1200 x 900mm.

If your shower sits against a single wall instead, a 3 sided shower enclosure will give you the same enclosed feel.

What size hinged shower door do I need?

Measure the width of your recess at the top, middle, and bottom, and work from the smallest figure. Our Havana hinged doors come in 1000mm, 1200mm, 1300mm, 1400mm, 1500mm, 1600mm, and 1700mm widths, so there's a size for most spaces.

  • 1000mm to 1200mm widths suit standard alcoves and ensuites.
  • 1300mm to 1500mm widths give you a roomier shower with space to move.
  • 1600mm and 1700mm widths are ideal where you're replacing a bath with a shower.

Match your door to a rectangle shower tray of the same length. The doors stand 1900mm tall, so if your ceiling is on the low side, our reduced height shower doors may suit you better.

How much space do I need in front of a hinged shower door?

Because the door swings outwards, you'll need clear floor space in front of it, roughly equal to the width of the door itself. Check that a toilet, basin, or radiator won't get in the way when it opens. If space is tight, a sliding shower door or bifold shower enclosure opens without needing room in front.

Do hinged shower doors leak?

Not when they're fitted and cared for properly. Most leaks come from a tray that isn't quite level, a gap in the silicone, or door seals that have worn over time. Take care to level the tray before fitting, seal around the outside edges, and replace the door seals if they start to split or harden. Yes. The Havana range comes in polished chrome, brushed gold, and matt black frames, so you can match your door to your taps and brassware.
