What is the best shower enclosure for a small bathroom?

It depends on where your shower is going, but the golden rule is simple: choose a door that doesn't swing out into the room.

  • In a corner, a quadrant shower enclosure is the classic small bathroom choice. Its curved front frees up floor space, and the sliding doors glide open with no swing space needed.
  • In a recess between two walls, a sliding shower door tucks neatly behind its fixed panel, so nothing sticks out into the room.
  • Where every millimetre counts, a bifold shower enclosure folds inwards as it opens, keeping your toilet and basin well clear.
  • For the most open feel of all, a single wet room panel screens the shower without enclosing it, so there's no door to think about.

What is the smallest shower enclosure I can buy?

Our most compact enclosures measure 700 x 700mm, available as square shower enclosures with a bifold or pivot door. They're a brilliant fit for cloakroom showers and the tightest ensuites. If you can spare a little more room, 760mm and 800mm sizes give you noticeably more space to move, and our quadrants start at 800 x 800mm.

Weighing up your options? Our guide to the best shower cubicles for small bathrooms compares the most popular sizes side by side.

How much space do I need in front of a small shower enclosure?

That all comes down to the door. Sliding and bifold doors need little or no clear floor in front, which is exactly why they're so popular in small bathrooms. A pivot shower door needs a little more, as part of the door swings out as it opens, while a hinged door needs the most space of all. Before you choose, stand where the shower will go and check how close the toilet, basin, and towel radiator sit. It's the quickest way to see which door will work.

H2 - Can I fit a shower in a small bathroom with a low or sloping ceiling?

Yes, and it's easier than you might think. Many small bathrooms, especially loft conversions and rooms tucked under the eaves, simply don't have the height for a standard enclosure. Our reduced height shower doors stand at 1750mm, with quadrant, bifold, pivot, sliding, and corner entry designs that fit comfortably beneath a lower ceiling, without losing any showering space inside.

How can I make a small shower room feel bigger?

Light is your best friend in a small space. Clear glass and slim frames let it travel right through the room, so the shower feels like part of the bathroom, rather than a box in the corner. Our frameless shower enclosures take this even further. A low profile shower tray keeps the floor line flowing, and large-format bathroom wall panels cut down on busy grout lines.

Can I buy a small shower enclosure with a tray?

Absolutely, and it's the simplest way to be sure everything fits. Order your enclosure and tray together in the same size, and you'll know the glass will sit perfectly around the edge on fitting day. You'll find a matching tray for every enclosure in our shower trays collection, and our guide on how to fit a shower tray walks you through the groundwork.
