Carronite Baths
Explore our collection of Carronite baths, which offer the strength of cast iron without the weight. Carron's patented triple-layer reinforcement process creates a bath that's lightweight, stable, and easy to clean. The specially formulated finish also retains heat longer than standard acrylic, allowing your water to stay warmer for longer soaks.
Carronite is a proprietary reinforcement system designed to strengthen acrylic bath shells. While standard 5mm acrylic baths are lightweight and retain heat well, they can flex under load, especially in larger sizes or with multiple users.
The Carronite process bonds an additional 5mm Beauforte reinforcement layer to the outside of the acrylic shell, doubling wall thickness to 10mm and creating a rigid composite structure. An 18mm structural baseboard beneath the bath further improves stability by evenly distributing weight and reducing stress, resulting in a significantly stronger, more durable bath.
For comprehensive information about Carronite technology and its benefits, read our complete guide to Carronite baths.
Carronite baths are designed for long-lasting performance, combining reinforced construction with superior stability. Their durable build extends lifespan to 30+ years, making them ideal for family bathrooms with heavy daily use. The reinforced structure eliminates flexing in larger baths, while additional layers reduce noise for a quieter filling experience. A structural baseboard also helps distribute weight evenly, minimizing stress on floors and joists, which is especially beneficial in older properties.
Carronite reinforcement accommodates various bath dimensions:
- 1400mm Baths and 1500mm Carronite Baths: Small baths suitable for restricted spaces, cloakrooms, and compact en-suites requiring durable construction in limited footprints.
- 1600mm Carronite Baths: Mid-length options balancing space efficiency with comfortable bathing dimensions for average-height users.
- 1700mm Carronite Baths: The most common residential size, fitting typical bathroom alcoves whilst providing generous soaking depth and length.
- 1800mm Carronite Large Baths: Extended lengths accommodating taller users or those preferring more spacious bathing areas.
- Carronite 1900mm Baths: Maximum residential dimensions for luxury bathrooms prioritising exceptional bathing capacity.
Width measurements vary by model, with standard single-ended designs ranging from 700 mm to 800 mm, and double-ended options available in sizes up to 1100mm, providing progressively wider bathing areas.
For help selecting the right size, consult our standard bath size guide.
Our Carronite bathtub collection includes diverse configurations:
- Straight Single-Ended Carronite Baths: Traditional layouts with waste and tap holes positioned at one end, featuring sloped backrests at the opposite end for comfortable reclining.
- Double-Ended Carronite Baths: Symmetrical profiles with centred waste positions allowing bathing from either end, ideal for two-person use or central tap positioning.
- Carronite Shower Baths: These have a dedicated shower area while maintaining a standard bathing section. Choose from curved P-shaped baths and angular L-shaped baths.
- Carronite Corner Baths: Angular designs fitting into room corners, maximising bathing capacity within angular footprints.
- Twin Grip Carronite Baths: Safety-enhanced models incorporating moulded handles for secure entry and exit, particularly beneficial for elderly users or those with mobility considerations.

Installing a Carronite bath follows much the same process as a standard acrylic bath: position the frame, level the bath, connect the plumbing, and seal around the edges. Because Carronite baths are heavier, adjustments should account for the extra weight to ensure stability under full load. Bath panels attach to the frame rather than the shell, so the reinforcement does not affect panel fitting or installation.
For comprehensive step-by-step installation guidance, read our guides on how to buy and install a new bath, how bath panels work, or for specific advice on sealing and waterproofing, consult our guide on how to seal a bath.
Carronite baths are cleaned like standard acrylic baths, using non-abrasive cream cleansers or mild detergents, followed by thorough rinsing and drying to prevent watermarks. Avoid scourers, harsh chemicals, or solvents that can scratch the surface; for limescale, white vinegar or acrylic-safe descalers work effectively. While the reinforcement protects against structural stress, keeping the surface clean and polished helps maintain its appearance. Minor scratches can be restored with acrylic or plastic polish.
For comprehensive cleaning guidance, read our article on how to clean a bath.
Carronite reinforcement is a premium material, but the extra cost can be worthwhile for heavily used family bathrooms. The enhanced durability, stability, and solid feel mean the bath can last 30+ years, outlasting standard acrylic and reducing replacement costs over time.
For occasional-use bathrooms, standard acrylic is usually sufficient, making Carronite an optional upgrade, though its long warranty and perceived quality may appeal in rental properties or homes for sale.

Our Carronite bath collection spans compact 1400mm models through spacious 1900mm options, and many ranges offer Carronite or Beauforte reinforcement as an optional upgrade, allowing you to specify strengthening based on your requirements and budget.
