Cloakroom vanity unit buying guide

In a cloakroom every centimetre counts, so start with a tape measure. Note the width of the wall, the space the door needs to swing and the distance to the toilet.

Width: compact units from 325mm to 400mm suit the tightest downstairs toilets, while 500mm to 600mm units give a larger basin and more storage.

Wall hung or floorstanding: wall hung units leave the floor clear, making a small room feel bigger. Floorstanding units are simple to fit and offer a little more storage.

What size is a cloakroom vanity unit?

Cloakroom vanity units are narrower and shallower than standard bathroom units. Our range starts at 325mm wide, with popular sizes at 400mm, 500mm and 600mm. Check the depth on each product too, as a shallow unit leaves more room to open the door and move around.

Is a wall hung or floorstanding cloakroom unit better?

Wall hung units are fixed to the wall and leave the floor clear, which makes a small room feel larger and easier to clean. Floorstanding units stand on the floor, are quick to fit and suit walls that cannot take the weight of a wall hung unit. Both hide the pipework behind a door.

Does a cloakroom vanity unit come with a basin?

Most of our cloakroom vanity units are supplied with a ceramic basin, and this is shown in the product title. Taps and wastes are usually sold separately, so choose a tap that suits the number of tap holes in the basin.

What tap should I use on a small cloakroom basin?

A mini or compact mono basin mixer suits most cloakroom basins. It is sized for a small bowl, so water lands in the basin rather than splashing onto the floor. Check the basin has a tap hole and pick a tap with a spout that reaches comfortably over the bowl.

Can I fit a cloakroom vanity unit in a corner?

Some cloakrooms suit a corner unit, but a slim straight unit on the shortest wall is often the best use of space. Measure the wall, the door swing and the space in front of the toilet before you choose, and allow at least a comfortable standing space in front of the basin.
