What is a slipper bath?

A slipper bath is a freestanding bath with one distinctively raised end, creating a comfortable reclined backrest. This design allows you to sit higher and lean back in luxury, making them ideal for long, relaxing soaks. Slipper freestanding baths became popular during the Victorian era and remain a stunning focal point today.

What is a roll top bath?

A roll top bath features a distinctive rolled rim around the top edge of the tub, traditionally crafted from cast iron. This iconic design sits on decorative feet and creates a statement piece in any bathroom. Modern acrylic roll top baths offer the same classic look with lighter weight and easier installation, perfect for creating a period-style bathroom.

Types of roll top and slipper baths

Our collection includes several distinct styles to suit different preferences and bathroom layouts.

Single-ended slipper baths: Feature one raised, sloped end for comfortable reclining, with the tap position at the opposite end. This classic slipper bath design maximises comfort while maintaining compact proportions.

Double-ended slipper baths: Both ends are raised and sloped, allowing you to recline comfortably from either direction. Taps are typically positioned centrally, creating a symmetrical design that's perfect for two-person bathing.

Single-ended roll top baths: One end is higher and more vertical, with the tap placement at the lower end. This traditional style works brilliantly for placing a roll top bath in a small bathroom without sacrificing comfort.

Roll top slipper baths: Combine the rolled rim edge of a roll top design with the raised sloped end of a slipper bath, offering the best of both styles in one stunning package.

Roll top and slipper bath sizes

Our slipper tubs and roll top baths typically range from 1500mm to 1800mm in length. A short roll top bath works brilliantly in compact bathrooms, cloakrooms, or where space is limited. Our 1500mm roll top bath options prove you don't need a palatial bathroom to enjoy freestanding luxury. Whereas large roll top baths provide spa-like indulgence.

Standard sizes sit at 1600mm to 1700mm, offering comfortable bathing for most adults. Width typically measures between 700mm and 800mm across all sizes.

Read our bath size guide for more information on the different dimensions.

What are your slipper baths and roll top baths made from?

Our slipper baths and roll top baths are crafted from high-quality materials chosen for durability and style. Most of our range is made from acrylic, which retains heat beautifully, resists chipping, and weighs considerably less than traditional cast iron versions. Acrylic also allows for easier installation, as you won't need structural floor reinforcement.

We also stock stunning copper slipper bath and copper roll top bath options, which develop a unique patina over time and offer exceptional heat retention. Each material meets rigorous quality standards and comes with manufacturer warranties for your confidence.

Available styles and colours

Slipper baths and roll top baths suit both traditional and contemporary bathrooms. Classic Victorian roll top baths suit period aesthetics with ornate feet and delicate details, often in crisp white finishes. For something different, a black roll top bath creates dramatic contrast and works beautifully in industrial or contemporary spaces. Modern roll top bath designs feature cleaner lines and simplified details whilst retaining the iconic silhouette.

Our roll top and slipper baths are available in various colours to suit your bathroom, from classic copper shades to colourful blues and classic white. Feet are available in various finishes, including chrome, brushed brass, oil-rubbed bronze, and matt black, allowing you to coordinate with your chosen taps and accessories perfectly.

Can you have a shower with a slipper bath or a roll top bath?

Yes, you can install a shower with your roll top or slipper bath setup, though it requires careful planning. A slipper bath with a shower typically needs a wall-mounted shower set or a floor-standing shower riser. You'll also need a shower curtain rail (often circular or oval) and suitable waterproofing around the bath area to protect surrounding floors.

How to measure for a roll top or slipper bath

Before purchasing your roll top freestanding bath or slipper bath, measure your bathroom carefully. You'll need the bath length plus an additional 200mm to 300mm clearance at each end for comfortable access and installation. Measure the width, including feet (if separate), and allow at least 600mm to 700mm of clear floor space around the bath for movement. Check doorway widths to ensure delivery access, and consider the position of existing waste pipes and whether you'll need a roll top shower bath setup with overhead plumbing. Always verify the ceiling height when installing shower attachments.

Our team can advise on specific measurements for your chosen model. Or read our guide on how to fit a bath for more details.

Are roll top and slipper baths comfortable?

Absolutely. Slipper baths are specifically designed with comfort in mind, thanks to the raised, sloped end that supports your back and neck naturally. Roll top bathtubs offer deep bathing with ample water capacity, allowing you to immerse yourself fully. The design of both styles beats standard straight baths for relaxation.
