What Are Wall-Hung Vanity Units and How Do They Work?

Wall-mounted vanity units fix directly to the wall using concealed brackets, creating a clean, floating look with no floor contact. Unlike freestanding furniture, floating bathroom vanity designs are fully supported by robust wall fixings that carry the unit, basin and water load. Plumbing is routed through the wall cavity, keeping pipework hidden for a sleek finish. This hanging sink unit style frees up floor space, makes cleaning easier and enhances the feeling of openness in modern bathrooms.

What Sizes Do Wall-Hung Vanity Units Come In?

Wall-mounted bathroom vanity units come in sizes suited to everything from compact cloakrooms to spacious family bathrooms. Small wall-hung vanity units start at 300mm for tight areas, ranging to widths of 900mm for luxurious set-ups. The bestselling 600mm wall-hung vanity unit offers ideal proportions for guest bathrooms, balancing basin space with storage. Whereas, 700mm wall-hung vanity units add extra room in large shared spaces.

Depths sit between 200–600mm, and basin heights vary from 200-800mm, depending on the height at which you’re installing it and the amount of storage space you need.

How High Should Wall-Hung Vanity Units Be Installed?

The ideal height for a floating bathroom vanity unit places the basin rim between 800mm and 850mm from the floor. Taller users may prefer 900–915mm for improved posture. Wall-hung countertop basin designs with vessel basins require lower cabinet placement, around 750–800mm, to keep the overall basin height comfortable. Alternatively, families with children may opt for slightly lower mounting. The main advantage of wall-mounted sink units is the ability to customise height to suit your household. Mark and test your preferred position before installation, as repositioning later requires new fixings and wall repair.

How Much Weight Can a Wall-Hung Vanity Unit Hold?

Weight capacity is essential when fitting a floating sink. A typical installation supports around 100kg, including the unit, basin, water, and daily use. Solid masonry walls (brick, block and concrete) provide the strongest support. Stud walls must be fixed directly into studs as plasterboard alone cannot support the load. Wall-hung bathroom basin setups may use reinforced cavity fixings if studs are not ideally placed. Larger wall-hung vanity units above 1200mm, such as wall-hung double vanity units, require especially robust fixings.

What Styles, Materials, and Finishes Are Available?

Our collection includes contemporary engineered wood designs with lacquered or melamine finishes in modern colourways, as well as wall-hung vanity units with ceramic basins for a more traditional look. White floating bathroom vanity layouts boost light and enhance spaciousness, while grey tones add subtle warmth, and wooden floating vanity unit options in oak, walnut, or ash-effect finishes bring natural texture. Our wall-hung vanity unit with countertop basin designs allows pairing with ceramic, stone, or glass vessel basins. Durable scratch-resistant surfaces and hardware in chrome, brass or black complete the look.

What Interior Types Are Floating Vanity Units Suited To?

Floating vanity units suit modern interiors where clean lines and space enhancement are key. They’re ideal for beachy interiors with light colour schemes and natural materials, and complement industrial bathrooms with concrete tiles and metal fixtures. The clear floor beneath floating bathroom vanity units visually expands compact rooms, making them perfect for small apartments and en-suites.

A wooden floating vanity unit works beautifully in mid-century spaces, while a bold black vanity unit wall hung suits dramatic, moody designs. Wall-hung bathroom basin styles can even blend into transitional spaces when paired with classic colours and balanced fixtures.

How to Install a Wall-Hung Vanity Unit

Installing a wall-mounted vanity unit requires secure fixings and accurate positioning. Identify your wall type and locate the studs or confirm that it is solid masonry. Mark the installation height so the basin rim sits around 800–850mm, adjusting to suit the primary users. Fix the mounting bracket level using appropriate wall plugs or long screws into studs.

Prepare your plumbing by routing hot, cold, and waste connections through the wall cavity. Lift the wall-hung sink onto the bracket – we recommend two people for this - and secure it with back screws. Connect the trap and tap feeds, test for leaks, then seal edges with silicone. For complex plumbing or heavy floating bathroom vanity models, professional installation is recommended.
