What is a frameless shower enclosure?

A frameless shower enclosure uses thick, toughened safety glass that holds its own shape, so it doesn't need a metal frame running around every edge. Slim fixings and wall profiles keep everything secure, while the glass itself does most of the work. The result is a clean, open look that lets your tiles and the rest of your bathroom take centre stage.

What's the difference between frameless and semi-frameless?

A fully frameless design has no frame around the glass at all, just discreet brackets and profiles to hold it in place. A semi-frameless enclosure keeps a slim frame only where it's needed, such as around the door track, and leaves the rest of the glass edges free. You still get that light, minimal feel, with the added reassurance of a supporting frame where the door opens and closes. Our Odessa quadrant enclosures are semi-frameless, while our Radiant wet room screens give you the fully frameless look.

Are frameless shower enclosures better than framed?

It really depends on the look you love and how you use your shower. Frameless designs feel more spacious, let in more light, and are easier to wipe clean, as there are fewer frames and seals for limescale to cling to. They're usually a little more expensive, and the heavier glass needs a solid wall to fix to, but our full range of shower enclosures includes plenty of options if you'd like to compare.

Which frameless shower enclosure suits my bathroom?

Start with where your shower will go, then choose the design that fits.

  • For a corner, our semi-frameless quadrant shower enclosures come in 800 x 800mm and 900 x 900mm, with a gentle curved front that saves floor space.
  • For a longer corner, our semi-frameless offset quadrant shower enclosures come in 1200 x 800mm and 1200 x 900mm.
  • For an open, doorless shower, our frameless wet room screens come in widths from 700mm to 1000mm, and you'll find the full range in our walk-in showers collection.

To reduce splashing on a walk-in, add a 300mm wet room flipper panel, which swings out from the end of the screen to create a return.

Can I get a frameless shower enclosure in black?

Yes. Selected Odessa semi-frameless enclosures come in matt black as well as polished chrome, which is a lovely way to add contrast in a modern or industrial-style bathroom. Pair it with black taps and a black shower head for a look that ties together beautifully. You'll find more options in our black shower enclosures collection.

Are frameless shower enclosures easy to clean?

They're one of the easiest to look after. With fewer frames, tracks, and seals, there are far fewer places for soap scum and limescale to build up. A quick squeegee after each shower keeps the glass sparkling, and a gentle, non-abrasive cleaner once a week does the rest.
